Monday, March 14 is the day to bring your concerns about state parks and beaches to Sacramento! Join us at the State Capitol for our third annual Park Advocacy Day. Meetings with legislators will be scheduled throughout the day, making this the perfect opportunity to be heard and make a difference. Between 5pm and 6:30pm relax at a catered reception on the 6th Floor of the Capitol building where we will honor Assembly Member John Laird for his dedication to your state parks.
Last year over 200 park supporters from throughout the state met with 102 of their legislators, delivering a powerful message: your state parks need protection from further budget cuts and non-mission uses. Our legislators need to be made aware of how important parks, beaches and historical sites are to our state. Not only do they provide education, conservation and recreation, but State Parks also contribute to the state's economy. This benefit is being endangered by threats such as roads and rail lines cutting through parks, housing developments built right up to park property lines, degradation of important historical and cultural sites, and overuse which threatens the closure of parks and beaches. Park Advocacy Day is the opportunity to let legislators know how these non-mission uses affect you and other park users. Make your voice heard!

IMPORTANT! Please save the date to join us on Monday, March 14th, and if possible, take part in one of the three “Strategic Planning Sessions” being offered at various locations throughout the state (see below). These workshops will allow you to meet individuals who took part in Park Advocacy Day 2004, find out about the urgent issues facing your state parks and learn how to deliver your message effectively to our lawmakers.
