2003 Annual Conference

“Turning Lean Times into A Bountiful Harvest”
Hosted by The Sonoma State Historic Park Association

EXCITING EVENTS PLANNED AT SONOMA- THE BIRTHPLACE OF CALIFORNIA

It is time to register for the 2003 CALPA Conference to be held October 25-28 in beautiful and historic Sonoma. The conference theme is “Turning Lean Times Into a Bountiful Harvest.”

The Conference Committee entrusted with the CALPA members' comfort and entertainment has planned enticing, exciting, and exhilarating events for the October conference. Conference headquarters, the Sonoma Valley Inn, is located downtown within a short walking distance of shops, restaurants, shopping centers, churches, and the famous town square with its historical sites. As an added plus, conference participants will be served daily breakfast in their rooms, and the conference sessions will take place on the premises.

The California State Parks Foundation will host a reception at Ramekins, Sonoma's exclusive cooking school. On Monday, October 27, lunch will be served at the historic Vallejo Home, followed by tours of the Mission, the Barracks, the Toscano Hotel, and a walking tour of downtown Sonoma led by docents in period attire. These sites are all within walking distance of the hotel; but if you wish to drive, you will find ample parking with no parking meters. The CALPA banquet will be held at the beautiful Sebastiani Winery. The Annual Outstanding Cooperative Association Awards will be announced at the banquet.

On October 28 conference attendees are invited to a personalized tour of Jack London State Park, the author's ranch and home. Visitors will see the cottage, his widow's home and museum, the Wolf House ruins, his grave, the pig palace, and areas of great natural beauty. Lunch will be provided before crossing the road and entering into the world of winemaking at Benziger Winery. The family-owned business conducts grape growing without pesticides. The tour on tractor-driven open vehicles will take you not only to the vineyard, but also into the caves, and finally to an outstanding wine tasting.

The conference sessions are described on the Conference Schedule page. The conference will also feature a trade show.
