CALPA Annual Conference Highlights
'A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats'
October 25-28, 2007
El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park
Santa Barbara, California
With the success of each cooperating association so do we all succeed, as does the whole California State Park System.
John F. Kennedy coined the phrase "a rising tide lifts all boats" when invoking the memories of FDR's New Deal program and Teddy Roosevelt's Land Conservation initiative. An economic term, it poses the concept that if you invest resources and infrastructure on a promising venture in one location that success will create a tide of positive economic stimulation which will radiate out.
In our Park world, this is manifested by the work of volunteers who inspire others to care and by the organization that goes one step beyond to build an interpretive center that will inspire thousands. You invest your time, expertise and passion to your park which lifts up all of us. At this conference, you will be lifted by many others who, like yourself, work toward excellence in partnering with State parks to steward and interpret the best State Park system in the world.
