2008 CALPA Statewide Webconference

We are excited about the success of CALPA’s first Statewide Webconference. Below are some details on the event.
The conference was a 3-hour live webconference, held on Saturday, September 20, 2008 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. It was broadcast live via the internet and telephone throughout the state as a precursor to the CALPA regional conferences, scheduled throughout the state between September 27 and November 15, 2008. The Statewide Webconference was free to all participants.
Purpose of the Statewide Webconference was:
- To bring CALPA and coop members up-to-date on state park and budget issues at the state level.
- To reach new prospective members of CALPA who might not normally attend conference in person.
- To promote upcoming regional conferences.
- To promote the “green” initiative of state parks and reduce the “carbon footprint” of CALPA functions.
The Statewide Webconference Schedule was as follows:
- 8:30 – 9:30 am – Carolyn Schoff – Webconference Moderator – Coffee Hour, Chat and Computer Compatibility Testing.
- 9:30 am - Randy Widera – President, CALPA – Welcome/Regional Conferences (15 min)
- 9:45 am – Director Ruth Coleman – DPR – State of the State Parks (20 min + Q&A)
- 10:15 am – Assemblymember John Laird – State Budget and State Park Access Pass Program (20 min + Q&A)
- 10:45 pm - Traci Verardo-Torres – CSPF, Legislative Director – State Park Advocacy (20 min + Q&A)
- 11:15 am – Break (10 min)
- 11:25 am – Robert Hartman – Cooperating Association Survey Results (15 min + Q&A)
- 11:50 am – John Mott and Randy Widera – SB1127 and other park issues (20 min + Q&A)
- 12:20 pm - Randy Widera – Wrap-up/Regional Conferences (10 min)
Regional Workshops
Regional Workshops will be 1-day events to be held between September 27 and November 15, 2008 based on event schedules of local cooperating associations.
All workshops will be scheduled on a Saturday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm with a lunch break for networking.
Cost of workshop will be partially subsidized by CALPA and cost to participant will be $20 for CALPA members and DPR staff and $30 for nonmembers.
Dates of Regional Workshops:
- September 27 - Central Coast (tentative)
- October 18 - Northern Coast - Mendocino
- November 1 - Central Coast
- November 15 - Southern California - San Diego
